The Recovery Process

Recovery unfolds in phases. Each phase has specific goals, interventions, and support systems. Here is what happens at each stage.

1

Initial Assessment

The first phase involves a comprehensive assessment conducted by our clinical team. This is not a sales conversation. It is a medical evaluation.

We gather information about medical history, substance use patterns, mental health, previous treatment attempts, and current physical condition. We also speak with family members to understand the full context.

This assessment helps us determine whether residential treatment at Simran Shri is appropriate and, if so, what level of care is needed.

We are honest about what we can and cannot provide. If we believe another type of care would be more suitable, we will tell you.

What You Can Expect

  • A thorough medical and psychological evaluation
  • Honest conversation about treatment options
  • Clear explanation of what happens next
2

Stabilization & Detoxification

If medically necessary, the individual undergoes supervised detoxification. This phase focuses on physical stabilization and managing withdrawal symptoms safely.

Detoxification is managed by medical professionals. Medications may be used to reduce discomfort and ensure safety. Vital signs are monitored regularly.

This phase can be physically and emotionally difficult. Our role is to provide medical support, reassurance, and a safe environment.

Families are kept informed about progress and any concerns that arise. We explain what is happening and what to expect in the coming days.

What Happens During This Phase

  • 24-hour medical supervision
  • Medication management for withdrawal symptoms
  • Regular health monitoring and assessment
  • Preparation for the next phase of treatment
3

Active Treatment

This is the core phase of recovery. The individual participates in structured therapeutic programming, receives ongoing medical care, and begins building skills for long-term recovery.

Each day includes individual therapy sessions, group therapy, educational programming, and wellness activities. The schedule is structured to provide consistency and routine.

Therapy addresses underlying issues that contribute to addiction, such as trauma, mental health conditions, or unhealthy coping patterns. We use evidence-based approaches tailored to individual needs.

Progress is monitored regularly. Care plans are adjusted based on how the individual is responding to treatment. Families receive updates and have opportunities to participate in family therapy sessions.

What This Phase Includes

  • Daily individual and group therapy sessions
  • Psychiatric care and medication management
  • Life skills training and relapse prevention
  • Family involvement and communication
4

Transition & Aftercare Planning

Recovery does not end when residential treatment ends. The final phase focuses on preparing the individual for life after Simran Shri and establishing ongoing support systems.

We work with the individual and their family to create a detailed aftercare plan. This includes identifying local support resources, arranging outpatient therapy, and establishing accountability structures.

We discuss potential challenges and develop strategies for managing triggers, stress, and difficult situations. We also address practical matters like housing, employment, and rebuilding relationships.

Discharge is not abrupt. It is a planned transition with clear next steps and ongoing support options.

Preparing for Life After Treatment

  • Comprehensive aftercare planning
  • Connection to local support resources
  • Relapse prevention strategies
  • Family education and ongoing support options

How Care is Planned

Individual Assessment

Every person receives a thorough assessment that examines medical history, substance use patterns, mental health, trauma history, and social circumstances. This assessment informs the care plan.

Personalized Care Plans

Based on the assessment, our clinical team develops an individualized care plan. This plan outlines specific goals, therapeutic interventions, and support services tailored to the person's needs.

Evidence-Based Methods

We use therapeutic approaches that have been shown to be effective through research, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing.

Ongoing Adjustment

Care plans are not static. They are reviewed regularly and adjusted based on progress, challenges, and changing needs. Recovery is not linear, and our approach reflects that reality.

What This Means for Your Loved One

Your loved one will not be placed in a one-size-fits-all program. Their care will be designed specifically for them, based on their unique circumstances, needs, and goals.

They will work with a consistent clinical team who understands their history and progress. They will receive care that addresses not just addiction, but the underlying issues that contribute to it.

They will be treated with respect and dignity throughout the process. They will have a voice in their own recovery.

This is what individualized care means at Simran Shri.
